Product Description
Film Faced Plywood Introduction
Film faced plywood, also called black film-coated plywood, is mainly made by cross-laminating multiple layers of poplar and eucalyptus veneers and then hot-pressing them. The surface is coated with a black phenolic waterproof film, making it a widely used traditional concrete formwork in the construction industry. Standard sizes are 1220×2440mm and 915×1830mm, with common thicknesses of 12mm, 14mm, 15mm, and 18mm. The black film surface is smooth and dense, waterproof and non-stick, so concrete doesn’t easily adhere during pouring, and the finished mold surface is even, usually without the need for extra release agent. The boards can be cut, drilled, and nailed, offering flexible processing and suitability for walls, beams and columns, slabs, structural columns, and other cast-in-place structures. Compared to regular red formwork, black film-coated boards are more wear-resistant, waterproof, can be reused more times, and are less likely to peel or warp due to moisture. The product is affordable, readily available, and suitable for various small to medium-sized building projects, factories, municipal roads, and small bridges, making it a versatile and cost-effective formwork material on construction sites.
Film Faced Plywood Classification
Black & Brown Phenolic Film Plywood (PF glue)
covered with 120–220g/㎡ phenolic paper and bonded with WBP waterproof glue. Resists rainwater immersion with service cycles from 8 to 25 times, the dominant export item for Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia markets.

PP White-Black Hollow Formwork
green PP plastic coating with superior waterproofing and corrosion resistance, specially designed for heavy engineering and coastal construction projects.

Film Faced Plywood Advantages
- Good demolding effect, looks nice when molded The surface is coated with a black phenolic film that’s dense and smooth, doesn’t stick to cement. After formwork removal, the concrete walls are flat and smooth, reducing wall repairs and plastering work. In most cases, you rarely even need a release agent.
- Waterproof and wear-resistant, lasts longer than red formwork The laminated layer is highly waterproof, so it won’t easily absorb water or peel in short-term rain or humid environments. It’s wear-resistant and scratch-resistant, can be reused more times than regular red board, and is less likely to have issues like surface delamination or exposed wood core.
- Easy to work with, fits all kinds of construction styles Wooden panels can be freely sawed, drilled, and nailed. Shear walls, beams and columns, curved shapes, and secondary structural columns can all be processed on-site, making them suitable for various cast-in-place concrete structures.
- High cost-performance, low purchase cost Raw materials are readily available and cheap, and the upfront cost is much lower than PVC, PP hollow plastic templates, or steel templates, making it suitable for small to medium construction sites with short schedules and few turnovers.
- Lightweight and easy to handle during construction The overall weight is light, so one worker can carry and lay it by themselves. Compared to steel supports and steel formwork, no large lifting equipment is needed, making construction more efficient for low-rise and small projects.
- Highly versatile and works in many situations It can be used for regular building construction, resettlement housing, factories, small municipal culverts, road retaining walls, and village self-built houses. The market supply is sufficient, making purchasing and restocking convenient.
